We are happy to share with all the community the memoirs that were compiled from the conference:
- Presentations in pdf format
- Videos in quicktime format
- Photo album (click here)
Keep in mind that STI Colombia is a work done by volunteers. The conference and follow up activities are done at the speed that the busy schedule of the volunteers permits.

What is next?
There are talks about organizing a second event of this nature, but nothing concrete has been decided. February of 2007 seems to be the preferred date for this event.
If you are interested in joining the organizing committee and/or volunteering for these events, send an email to info@cticolombia.com.

Motivation:
The rapid pace of technological advance, globalization and economic reforms are creating dramatic shifts in the structure of economies and labor markets throughout the world. Research and education are increasingly valued as the “knowledge economy” sets in and fragmentation of production processes brings global competition to every aspect of the economy. Two major factors in determining the leverage of a country in this context are the overall levels of technological and scientific development and the preparation and adaptability of the workforce. How does Colombia compare to the rest of the world in terms of managing globalization?

Colombia is a developing country with deficiencies in socio-economic and technological aspects. Even though the former usually carries a tone of urgency, the contribution that can be made by technological developments might offer sustainable solutions to many of the socio-economic challenges a developing country faces. It is then of utmost importance to organize and communicate the efforts of the researchers at home and abroad, the governmental institutions, the academic establishments and the entrepreneurs who are interested in advancing research and innovation in Colombia.

Furthermore, the growing Colombian Diaspora, and especially its large component of students and researchers brings unique opportunities for the scientific and technological advance of the country. This can be better seized upon if combined with a national, long term strategy for choosing the areas of research that should be stimulated.

In order to address this issues The Colombian Colloquium will host the first Science and Technology Conference which will bring together experts from Colombia and abroad. The conference will take place at the Harvard and MIT Campuses on November 18th and 19th, 2005.
The conference will consist of four panels, two on Friday and two on Saturday.

The Colombian Colloquium strongly believes that Colombia has the potential to advance new technologies by making the most of its unique natural and human resources. The 1st Science and Technology in Colombia Conference aims to identify strategies to push this process forward.
